H2O Galore

3 more sleeps and counting. But wait, who’s counting?

Oh yeah… I have been for the last few weeks now. Around the Bay is just around the corner. I have been thinking about it so much; I’m soo excited and starting to feel so nervous… a few nerves never hurt though.

This week I have been trying to be more aware of my fluid and food intake. I have been drinking lots of water and 2-3 cups of green tea a day to try and change it up a bit. Drinking water has never been an issue for me as I have always drank A LOT of it. It’s rare to see me without my dented stainless steel water bottle.

yesterdays dinner: broccoli, mixed veggies, tomato, salmon with fresh lemon juice and salt. yum!

One thing I’m battling this week is being tired. Very tired. I’m getting my 8 hours of sleep, if not more but I’m just plain tired. In all fairness though, I had Thryogen injections on Monday and Tuesday, so my nuclear medicine doctor can check my thyroglobulin when I go for blood work tomorrow. I was a little nervous having this done the same week as my race but it’s all mind over matter, right? Mind over matter, baby… at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

I already bought some of the goodies that I’ll take for fuel during my race:

2 Chi3 Energy drinks
my favorite GU chomps

and of course GLIDE. I’ve never used it before although I want to avoid what happened last time on one of my long runs.

I still need to figure out what gear I’ll wear. I’ll do that Saturday night though because who knows what the weather will be like. Yesterday we had a major snow blizzard storm all day and it just kept falling. Just fabulous. Fingers crossed it will be gone by Sunday!

Today it is sunny out so things are looking up!

This morning I ran an easy 6.24km run… I’m glad it was short because it was icy out. Either way, it always feels good to get those legs moving eh?!

Have a great Thursday y’all!

What do you fuel with during a race?  Do you get nervous on race day or am I the only crazy that does?!

What’s a girl to do?

So how is the Spring cleaning coming along? That’s what we’re supposed to do when Spring arrives, isn’t it? Well if you need some motivation go and check out Lindsay’s post here. I loved reading it and I’m feeling motivated to climb on board with her.

One can’t go wrong by Spring cleaning the mind, body and soul. What about the cupboards? I think that’s a good way to clean house — not only physically in your house.. but for your body’s sake aswell. That old can of soup in the back of your cupboard that has about 1000mg of sodium, or that box of cookies full of trans fat… get rid of it! How about replacing them with some homeade soup, or homemade granola bars? I know for me, I hate wasting food, so I don’t recommend throwing it away. I like donating to a local shelter or community care as they are always looking for donations. Although I do recommend hiding some chocolate in those cupboards in case of an emergency, of course. It will make you feel better, I promise. Let’s start this season out right by nourishing our body with the food it needs in order to take us where we need to go. I always find it so much easier to eat better when it’s nice out and fresh produce is everywhere to be found. Are you with me on this?!

This morning I had an awesome run with the Runner’s Edge crew. I ran 8.03km in 41:12 with an average pace of 5:08/km.

yes, I know.. I'm stylish. note to self: don't wear that again.

It was only a short run but really enjoyable over good conversation! I don’t know how I kept that pace up but it felt great.

hello sunshine!

When I first started out I was worried I didn’t have enough layers on and by the end I was trying to peel off the few that I had. It was bright and sunny and we were actually able to stretch outside afterwards…bonus eh!

I’m off to make some of those granola bars right now. We are all out of those AND the emergency stash of chocolate… uh-oh… what is a girl to do…

Mind over matter

Happy Monday ya’ll!! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

On Saturday I had a great 11.03km run. My average pace was 5:20/km, and I ran it in 58:50. It was actually a really good run and I felt strong but my left knee and my right shin were just killing me. Aaahh, I just want it to go away. I have been icing like crazy, using the Trigger, and GMan has been massaging the heck out of my legs. What a good hubby eh? Apart from the pain, I was happy with my run.

Remember my goal? Well I have been getting my Yoga Meltdown on often and I absolutely love it. It feels so good to really strech and it is such a good workout! My arm muscles are already popp’n. Ha, yeah right.

I didn’t do my recovery run today, but I did walk. and walk. and walk…

so I did get my legs moving… that counts, right? It was SO beautiful outside. GMan and I were loving the sunshine.

Check it out, first time without a big bulky coat.

holy, squinty eyes

OOOhh, I am so hoping this stays.

Both of my step-sons are sick this weekend… hacking, sneezing.. oh yes, the whole bit. Wonderful, I know. I am washing my hands like a freak because I CANNOT GET SICK. That’s what I keep telling myself. This week is a big week. Today I’m not feeling 100%… but I keep telling myself otherwise. I have been drinking tons of water (don’t worry, Mom and Dad.. I’m not going to drown myself. (PS: that’s what they always told me was going to happen because of the amount of water I drink)), drinking cups of green and peppermint tea and I also bought this to try:

Yes, I know it’s empty… I already drank it. It was dark green color though.. just the look of it could turn a person off. It’s actually really good though. It’s full of different fruits, spirulina, wheat grass, barley grass and wheat sprouts.. I quite liked it! I couldn’t convince GMan to drink some though. His loss though, eh?

I hope this is a great week for all of you, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.
