Back to business

I bet you all thought that I forgot about you…. well guess what… I’m baaaaacckk!!!

I wish I could tell you that I had gone travelling for awhile, visiting the Americas and salsa dancing in between laying on the beach… but alas, that’s not the case.

I did however try to write a few posts the last few weeks but in all honesty, I fell asleep at the computer every. single. time. Things have been busy and I guess I was just really tired… or else I really just suck at balancing things… which could very well be the case.

Summer is here and I couldn’t be happier!! The tights, gloves, hats, and layers of warm running clothes are packed away and the tank tops and shorts are at the top of my drawer.

I did take a break from running but continued to work out a bit at home. I was just finding it so hard to get motivated which is ridiculous because I trained all winter in some pretty crazy cold weather. Owell, that’s the past right? The good news is that I’m back running and finding out how much it sucks to be out of shape start up again after taking a break. Lately, my longest run has been no longer than 50 minutes (*tear). But I have no one to blame other than myself. With that being said, it feels great to be running again and I am really enjoying it…. and I must say it feels mighty good to not have to put 4 layers on before going out the door.

Thankfully, I have gotten some good runs in and feel soo much better afterwards. Like today for instance… other than the fact that I was a dummy and went around the hottest time of day. Thank goodness I had my handy water bottles or G-Man probably would have found me passed out on the road.

a bit delirious at this point... sooo hot out.. and soo flattering eh. ha!

I’ve also been doing some of this and man is it a good workout. An easy workout to get your heart rate up in a short amount of time:

Awhile ago I mentioned  The Wrong Way to Hope film tour. Well, back in May, G-Man and I went to a screening and I’m so glad we did. The film was amazing and definitely worth the hour drive. I hope a lot of you were able to see it aswell. The best part was that I finally got to meet the famous Bonnie!

We had communicated so much via our blogs and email it was so awesome to finally meet in person. Bonnie is a beautiful person inside and out and she is so genuine. Her and her husband Mikey, are so much fun to be around!

I miss my blogging friends and look forward to catching up with all of you!

How do you get back on track after taking a break or feeling a lack of motivation? Any tips!? Let’s hear them!!

What a day!

I just got in from a VERY windy run! I came home to find out that there are actually wind warnings out. Thankfully I made it home in once piece. I mentioned I’m having a hard time staying motivated and this weather is sooooooo not helping.  Although I am happy about the short 7.86km run that I ran this morning.

holy red eyes

My legs felt tight, so I stopped and stretched for a minute and was on my merry way again. At times it felt like I was running on the spot from pushing against the wind or else going to fall smack on my face from it being at my back. It almost took me off my feet a couple times… thankfully my thunder thighs weigh me down.

holy, red face and nice hair-do

So ten hours later, I’m back. My plan was to have this post up this morning but that was cut short. The power went out… for ten hours!!  What a day! It was out in most of the city so lots of stores and businesses were closed but the streets were jammed pack… with traffic and trees. I hope nobody got hurt.

A roof blew right off one of the schools…… it was crazy windy out I tell ya.

It’s kind of sad (but in a way really awesome at the same time) to think about how much we depend on technology and power. I bet I tried to turn the light switch on 50 times until I actually remembered “oh yeah, no power”. Couldn’t do much in the office today either because well, no computer, no printer, no email and in some places no phone service. I wonder how long we could go without the internet before people start to go bonkers? I’m guessing for not very long…

When I lived in Cuba, after the first hurricane (I was there for two) we went a full month without hydro and water. Oh yeah, and it was for the month of August.. which means it was VERY hot out!! It was awful for sleeping… no fans = soo hot and uncomfortable and lots of mosquitoes. I was a walking, red polka-doted mess. It was quite the experience, let me tell you.

On my last day... with two of my favorite little kids.

Washing clothes... which took about a day (obviously not during the power outage)

What’s the longest you’ve gone without power? How long do you think you could go (before going crazy) without internet!?

Motivational Reminder

I hope you all had a great long weekend!!!

After some April showers the sun came out this weekend and it was absolutely beautiful! Although we had a really busy weekend, GMan and I enjoyed our time together and made time for some much needed relaxation. We had planned to go to mis papas house but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

I wasn’t as fortunate as Lindsay and had to hit the stores up on Saturday to get some much needed groceries. It was crazzzzy busy! I swear people freak out and panic just because the stores are closed for a day. When I was in highschool I worked at a grocery store and Easter weekend was always busier than Christmas time. I still don’t get it.  By the way, go and check out the awesome giveaway Lindsay has on right now!!

This past week I have been having a hard time getting motivated to get out for a run…. a very hard time.
Friday, I set my alarm to get up early and go and guess what… it never happened. SOMEBODY (cough, GMan) set the time wrong and the alarm never ended up going off. I was happy for the little sleep in though, so I didn’t mind.
Saturday I set the alarm for 6:55am to get up and go… I got up, looked out the window and it was raining, AGAIN. I just didn’t want to go and felt so sick of the crap weather. So I didn’t. I climbed back into bed for 5 more minutes, got up and got a good workout in at home. I knew if I didn’t then I would be kicking myself later in the day. The sun ended up coming out later on and it was a gorgeous day!

I didn’t get out running on Sunday either. I had planned to but there was lots to get done and I just wasn’t overly excited to get out and run… so guess what.. I didn’t. I’m blaming my lack of motivation on the weather.

I DID however get out for a run today and am I ever glad! I ran 14.01km in 1:12 it felt so good!!

Maybe the feeling I had after my run was a little “motivational reminder” of why I love to run and why I need to continue running…. because it totally sucks starting from scratch and trying to re-train. As I was running, I was wondering if I need to change it up a bit for some motivation. Maybe run with my ipod a few times and see if that helps?! Any suggestions?

Since I have been slacking on the running front, I have been trying to fuel my body with goods like this:

although goodness like this has also snuck in there:

Yes, you know.. those round colorful mini-eggs in there. My weakness…. they jumped in the cart, I swear. *cough, cough*

I did buy some kale (for the first time ever) because I want to try and make some kale chips… that’s healthy, right?!

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned that my handsome husband is a photographer and not to mention a talented one! Right now he is in the process of revamping his website for Arana Photography.

He’s the owner but I’m the boss.. isn’t that how it works, ladies?! :) Totally kidding!!  I won’t go into detail because you can read all about it here!  But you should go take a look for yourself and you will see I’m not being biased just because I’m his wife :) And of course, call us when you need a photographer!!!!

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!
