Common Sense?

Good news in the house today ladies and gents! Yesterday morning when I was on my run, it was the first time in awhile that I felt like a runner again. It was a good feeling! As I was lacing up my shoes it started pouring out, but that didn’t stop me from getting a good 30 minute run in. I kept a good pace throughout and despite the rain, I really enjoyed it. I was thinking back to a couple weeks ago when I would opt out of a run when it was raining out… times are a changing!

When I got home, my shoes were soaking wet. I didn’t think they would be dry for today’s run, so I used the old trick and stuffed my them with newspaper. Changed the damp newspaper for some new before I went to bed and voila! They were dryer than ever this morning. Works like a charm!

Another little trick: if you have an avocado or piece of fruit that isn’t ripe yet but you want to eat it… just wrap it in newspaper and it will ripen a lot faster. Works every time.

It’s a beautiful day out today… although very hot and humid! I was out the door by 7:30am and had a great 10km run.

trying to wake up before heading out the door

My calfs felt a bit tight at certain points throughout but that has been the case the last few times I’ve ran. It was HOT out. I was sweating buckets by the time I finished and drank every last drop of my water.

holy bananas, my face was red.

I never used to run with a water bottle but since I bought this handy belt, I feel naked if I run without it – or like I’m going to die of thirst. With this humidity, I could use a big Culligan water jug and it still wouldn’t be enough.

Let’s talk about something for a minute…

Have you had a dog run at you while out for a run?

At one point when I was running down a nice residential area, I saw a man (in his housecoat) up ahead with his dog running loose. I specifically crossed the road hoping to make it by without having to stop because of the dog. Well guess what… The dog (while barking) runs right towards me and continues to circle me. Obviously, I stop because I don’t want it to chase me. I’m scared of big dogs and I especially don’t appreciate them when they interrupt my runs. The owner did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. He was just laughing and calling his dog (who clearly WAS not obeying). I started to walk away and the dog would continue to bark and circle me. I was SO MAD and I’m sure I showed it. The owner chuckled “Oh my wife runs, he just wants to run with you”. Well guess what SIR, I don’t want to run with your dang dog and I bet your wife wouldn’t appreciate it if a strange dog was a) slowing her down and b) barking right at her. After about a good 3 minutes, I finally said ” Can you PLEASE come and get your dog?”.

Tell me… is it not COMMON SENSE to at least hold your dog’s collar as runners/cyclists/pedestrians/whoever, passes by? Maybe others would just keep on going but I was clearly scared of the dog. This isn’t the first time this has happened and I’m sure it’s not the last. It just seems to be getting worse and people less considerate when walking their dogs. I love dogs (just not big ones) but I don’t love when they come running at me. Am I over-reacting? I don’t think so. How do you feel about this issue?!

I made some of my favorite salsa last night. Ok, minus a few ingredients that I didn’t have… but these Tostitos definitely made up for the missing ingredients. They are AMAZING and my new favorite. Go and try them!

Surrounded by beauty

So it’s Monday. The beginning of another week, back on schedule or to the daily grind as some may say. I must say that my Monday started out on a very high note. It’s a GORGEOUS day and I had an awesome run this morning! I ran for 2 hrs. and 34 minutes….. just kidding, I wish that was the case. Apparently, I forgot to stop my watch. I did however run a good 45 minutes. Today’s run was peaceful; it was early, the sun was shining and I ran a completely different route today down by the lake. What a great start to a busy Monday eh!

yes, i know.. i need to get more running shirts for some variety.

I think it really helps to change the route up once and awhile… new things to look at and new places to explore. I even think it’s important for safety reasons too…. just incase someone is following or watching you.

This weekend was a busy yet enjoyable one.

On Saturday we went to the Outlet Malls in Niagara Falls because I wanted to find some clothes and see how the deals were. Well, deals there were not or at least not what I was expecting. I did find a few things for a decent price though, so I left happy. I was also very happy that G-Man bought some clothes too because he never buys anything for himself. Normally he always buys things for me and boys and comes home empty handed for himself.

Saturday evening we decided to go for a walk by the lake. It was SO beautiful.

It was busy with people of all ages with lots going on. We really enoyed the beauty and calmness of the water and each others company.

how romantic eh... aren't we cool ;)

playing around... i almost fell in the water a couple of times.

Of course, we did so over an ice cream cone. Did you expect anything less?

So G-Man and I are not big partiers by any means. It had been awhile since we had gone out on a date, so Saturday night we went out in Niagara Falls with some friends. We went to Taco n Tequila – a Mexican eatery and bar. It was our first time there. I would say it’s more Colombian than Mexican though haha I think my hubby was the only Mexican in the house! There was a live band playing latino music and the environment was pretty decent. The music was really good…I reallllly love dancing salsa.

We didn’t get home until after 4am. Yes, 4 AM. Crazy, I know… way past my bed time. Yes, I do realize I am a Granny but I don’t care. I would much rather go to bed early and wake up early than stay up half the night.

Sunday was a good day too. We had a gift certificate to use at Johnny Rocco’s so the hubby and I went for a late lunch. I had primavera pasta and G-Man had chicken and mushroom risotto, it was pretty good. The lunch portions were really big so we walked out of there very full.

I think it will be our last time there though… it’s not my all-time favorite and the service isn’t that great.. If I’m going to go out to eat, I want it to be worth it.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, I hope you had a great weekend!

Are you a nighthawk or an early riser?
~ Without question, an early riser…. although, I do enjoy a good sleep-in once in awhile.

TRX’n it up

Happy Friday all!!! So the weekend is almost here and hopefully you will all be able to enjoy it and relax … or party party if that’s your thang too.

So I have a new little “toy” that I am excited to talk about (me, talk? I know, I know)

I am the proud owner of a TRX!

Let’s back up a bit though… when Bonnie stopped by for a visit, I couldn’t resist in asking her to show me what exactly the TRX is, how it’s used and it’s benefits. Of course, with her being a personal trainer she jumped at it and I’m so glad she did!  By the short [yet awesome] lesson she gave me, I was totally sold. I had briefly heard about it before but I couldn’t believe how something so versatile and portable could be such an incredible workout.

So when I found a good deal on a TRX, I couldn’t pass it up … and am I ever happy with it!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with it…

What is a TRX? … “a revolutionary method of leveraged bodyweight exercise. Easily set up the portable TRX Suspension Trainer and you’re in control. Safely perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the intensity you choose” source

getting a workout in after a 30 min. run

I’m no pro and still learning how to use it properly but let me tell you, the first time I did the DVD workout, I thought my heart was going to jump right out of my chest. It’s intense and a no joke of a workout! I like it because there are different progressions depending how hard you want to work yourself, so this really can be a workout tool for everyone.

I packed it up with me a couple weeks ago when we headed out of town for my cousins wedding. I just HAD to show the rest of my family! They were pretty impressed (with the TRX.. not with me).

showing the fam just how cool it is

I think the hardest part of getting used to the TRX is trust. Trusting that the door won’t break and that I won’t fall flat on my face. Trusting that I can hold myself up. It’s all a work in process people.. but I am enjoying it.

Have you tried a TRX? To my knowledge, they were more popular in the States before they hit Canada.

————————————

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Anything exciting planned?

G-Man and I are going on a hot date on Saturday night. Oh la la!
