Listen to your body

The other day I mentioned that it’s important to push ourselves but guess what… it’s also important to listen to our bodies and allow ourselves a break when we need it. Sometimes our head may tell us one thing and our body may tell us another. My advice – always listen to your body! It feels good to be able to write that it’s NOT the end of the world if you miss a run/workout/bike ride etc. I may have told you something different a couple of years ago – it would have been the end of the world and my day totally “off” if I missed a run and eating would be restricted for the rest of the day. We shouldn’t put that pressure on ourselves because while worrying about silly little things like that we totally miss out on the important things in life. Like HAVING FUN!  I guess the most important thing is trying to find that balance, right?

i was having fun here. promise.

Your family, friends and husband will still love you no matter what. They could really care less if you miss a workout. But the most important thing is to LOVE YOURSELF. You know how the saying goes… you can’t love anyone else until you love yourself. Corny? Maybe. True? Yes.

Today we’re off to shoot a wedding, so it will be a great day! G-Man will be work’n it and I’ll be.. well.. work’n it too. What better way to spend the day then to see two lovebirds, happy and in love!

I chose not to run today because well, quite frankly I didn’t want to wake up at 5:30 in the morning. I did get a killer workout on the TRX. I am LOVING this thing! After the first set of lunges which is maybe about twenty seconds, the beads of sweat started dripping, my heart racing and popping out of my chest. Ok, Almost. I can’t wait to pack it up with me this weekend when I go away for a few days. It is so convenient… if I can’t get a run in, I’ll just hang the TRX over the door and begin my workout.

awesome camera skills + weird face. i know.. don't ask.

The added bonus is that I don’t have to look presentable and can wear whatever workout clothes my little heart desires. Sorry G-Man.

So it turns out that being a chocoholic isn’t so bad afterall… those who consume one chocolate bar per day are better protected from harmful UV effects… who would have thought?! So the next time you grab that chocolate bar, don’t feel so bad.. it will not only make you feel better it will help protect your skin too. It’s a win-win.

Are you hard on yourself?
~ Not as hard as I used to be. Thank goodness.

Tell me something you like to do for FUN!

Pros vs. Cons

Last week I mentioned some good news. Well today I have more good news. I can feel myself getting back in shape and that is such a good feeling!

I woke up with a headache of what seemed to be the beginning of a sinus infection but decided to lace up anyways and go for a run, hoping I would feel better.

pre-run squinty eyes.

I only ran about 6km but I still had a great run. If I want to see results and be more in shape then I need to push myself. I won’t see those results by only thinking about running… I think that’s why some people continue to run – to push themselves to a different level and most importantly the sense of accomplishment afterwards. I know those are only a few of the reasons why I run.

post-run mess

It’s important that we celebrate the small distances and things in life because that’s how we continue to go forward and succeed.

sooo hot out.

It is very humid out today! I think my trusty waterbelt will be my saving grace this summer.
————————————-

I’ve decided to register for a couple races. Not exactly sure which ones yet or what distances I want to run. I know, I know.. I’m prepared eh. One of my running friends asked if I was interested in training for the Niagara Falls International Marathon  that’s in October. You know what the crazy thing is? Part of me is actually considering it. Since I’m so indecisive  I made a list of PROS and CONS.

PROS
– it would be a good learning experience
– I could check “run a marathon” off my bucket list
– a killer fitness goal

CONS
– After running 30km I thought I was going to die and felt that if I had to run anymore I would have to crawl
– I’ve never ran a marathon
– training for a marathon takes up A LOT of time
– having a strict training schedule (I’d say this can be a pro and con)
– 26.2 miles is VERY far
– my head plays games with me
– I’m a scaredy cat and don’t want to fail

OR option number two is to train really hard for the half marathon and aim for a PB. Decisions, decisions… I’m pretty sure the cons outweigh the pros.

A shout out to the five people who found my blog by searching “nut house”… thanks for the confirmation that I am indeed crazy. Same to the crazy cat who found me by searching “cats falling of treadmills” … Funny.. because I’m pretty sure I don’t have a cat nor do I really like them (Sorry sista… Toula-Boula is an exception.. kind of).

Have you ever ran a marathon?

What’s your favorite distance to run?

Chocolate makes everything better

This morning when I woke up, it was cloudy and overcast. I almost talked myself out of going for a run. Almost.

OH. Look what was greeting me on the kitchen ceiling when I woke up this morning…

I FREAKED. I HATE CENTIPEDES. I frantically yelled for G-Man to KILL IT! KILL IT QUICK! After I saw it was smushed on the ceiling, I calmed down. Hey, I would rather it be visibly dead on the ceiling rather than it falling to the ground. I am also TERRIFIED of spiders. To the point where I will cry. Don’t laugh.. my sister is worse. The worst part is when I holler for G-Man to kill them (no, I won’t kill it myself) and then he doesn’t do so hard enough, they fall to the ground and we can’t find it anywhere. THEN there is even more panic and I obviously can’t go to sleep until we find it.

Anyways… back to my run. I’m thankful I got a (short) run in but it was a bit painful wasn’t the best for some reason.

i'm still learning how to open my eyes in pics.. can you tell?

so cool... i know.

I just couldn’t get in my groove and I had to stop at Tim Hortons for a bathroom break… not cool. When I left the house it was breezy and seemed like it wasn’t very hot out but alas, I was wrong. I was way to hot with my long sleeve shirt on which just distracted me even more. Somedays I miss running the country roads when I could go out in my sports bra only. So I accepted that it wasn’t a great run and decided to cut it short. Let’s hope for a better run tomorrow.

you know it's true love if he'll hug you after sweating buckets.

I made some of these gems which made everything all better. Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies.

G-Man really liked them which is always an added bonus.. that way I can send them off to work with him so I don’t eat them all. Rather than reposting the recipe, you can take a look for yourself here. I got it from the same awesome blog where I got the recipe for these babies.  They are super easy to make and loaded with chocolate chips. What’s not to love!
