Better late than never

I hope you all had a great Easter weekend!

It was beautiful outside for the most part and G-Man and I took full advantage of it. Friday morning we had an E-Session in a different city. There was a road race going on right around the corner, so I was a little jealous that I wasn’t running too, however, I had fun cheering for the runners before the shoot. We got quite a bit of exercise during the session as we walked through a Botanical Garden for over two hours.

Saturday morning, I woke up early and had an AWESOME 15km run. I had a total runners high afterwards and felt so good to start my morning off by hitting the pavement. I saw quite a few other runners and walkers out enjoying the beautiful morning which I always find so motivating!

G-Man and I hit up the market afterwards and it was SO busy! I really wanted some fresh asparagus.. bit it turned out not being that tasty though.

I feel like I was an eating machine this weekend and definitely lived up to my nickname. Of course when we went to  Costco, there were hundreds of samples…obviously that’s the best part! It was a madhouse and I forgot my camera but let me tell you there was lots of treats. Ice cream and Krispy Kreme donuts may or may not have been consumed as well.. too bad there is no picture, so you will never know :) Ok, I totally did eat them and I’m kicking myself now. Krispy Kreme donuts are seriously the worst thing ever (actually they are really freaking good but I’m talking health wise) and are SO fattening.

We went for a drive along the Niagara Parkway and really enjoyed some quality time together  radio-active-runnerradioactive-runnerradioactive-runnerAfter a relaxing weekend, it was time to get my sweat on and did it ever feel good! I had planned on going for a run yesterday but wimped out because of the wind. I put together two workouts and here is what they looked like:

Easter Buns Burner

Two rounds – full out! Gymboss set to 6 rounds of 35 seconds with a 10 second rest between each move.

~ warm up – jumping jacks
~ crab toe touches
~ lunge with leg kick (R)

~ dead man burpees
~ walk out push-up
~ squat with press up (10lb dumbbells)
~ cool down: jumping jacks

* to start, I did jumping jacks until I could feel my heart rate increase and then cool down for about a minute

It doesn’t look like a lot but I gave it my all and it was a GREAT workout.

Push it – TRX  Style

~ 20 one legged squats (R)
~ 20 one legged squats (L)
~ 20 back rows

This morning I ran 8km to shake out from yesterday.. my body was sore.. but a good sore! radio-active-runner-morning-runO.M.G. my face is getting so wrinkly…  as much as I don’t like it, I think it may be time to break out a hat to keep the sun out of my eyes while running so I don’t squint so much and hopefully wrinkles too. Please go along with it and tell me it will work.

So six hours later and this post is still open and not uploaded..better late than never eh. Just pretend you are reading this earlier in the day, k? Thanks! Looking forward to catching up in blog land and read about your adventures from the weekend.

April Flowers

Happy APRIL!  Can you believe another Month is upon us already?

I don’t have much of a recap from the weekend. I don’t think it’s worth reporting that I may have ate too much ice cream and really enjoyed my handsome man’s cooking of authentic Mexican food. I just love his cooking and spicy flavours!

Saturday morning, we woke up to SNOW and I so did not want to go out for a run in it. Instead, I did level 3 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and Yoga Meltdown. I was wiped out! I was kind of regretting putting it on level 3 within the first two minutes but I pushed through and had a great workout. I few years ago, I never would have thought of doing a workout video, it just wasn’t "my thing"  … but they can kick some serious butt and are perfect when time is limited.

G-Man wandered off to the Market while I got my sweat on and look what he surprised me with gerber-baby-flowers-colorsgerber-baby-flowers-colorsHe sure knows how to brighten my day! I have the most caring, loving and sweetest husband EVER! Ok, enough with the mushy gushy, right..

This morning I had an awesome 10km run under the sun and enjoyed every second of it. I pushed myself to go faster and to keep a steady pace. LOVE that feeling and can’t wait for the next one!

How about some motivation for a Monday? These Nike ads never get old:nike(click image for source)

What’s your favourite: Mexican food, Italian food or Chinese food?
~ I really love Mexican.. but I think Italian is a close tie

If you could workout with any famous personal trainer, who would it be?
~ umm.. let me think about that for a second… DOLVETT, obviously!

Friday Rambles – numero dos

1. Remember that blizzard I mentioned? Well, I may or may not have fulfilled my craving… Ok, I most definitely did and enjoyed every bite. Holy bananas, the Reese’s pieces blizzards rock! It only took me 20 minutes to decide what flavour to go with. Yes, it IS a big decision; I don’t eat these things often. Thank goodness G-Man has enough patience for an army.2. Tonight we are going grocery shopping and I can’t wait. Yes, I love grocery shopping, going through the flyers and making a list. I think that’s a sign that I’m getting old. Although seeing all of the Easter Candy is a little tempting… it’s quite possible a bag of mini eggs may just happen to fall into the mouth cart. G-Man: if you go along with it, I might share them with you!

3. After my race, I didn’t want to cook and quite frankly didn’t really want to move. On the way home, we stopped for my favourite:
Yum! I would actually like to take a bite out of one right now. Speaking of food and speaking of getting groceries; we are running low on well, everything. I was planning on handing the boys an apple and the peanut butter jar and calling it dinner. Does that make me a bad Stepmom? Please keep your answer to yourself.

4. The other day, I did the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred – level 2  – and I was sweating BUCKETS! It was such a good workout. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I just LOVE getting my sweat on with an intense, short workout.

5. On my easy run this morning, I was thinking about cutting back on long distance and train for some 5 and 10km’s. I want to get fast and I know that to race fast, one needs to TRAIN fast. I guess I could still work on my speed and run half marathons, right? I think incorporating speed work into a training plan is so important and very beneficial… but I think in order to make it happen, I need to sit down and write it down on paper. We’ll see..

6. Apparently it’s supposed to snow tonight. WTF. Last week it was 30 degrees and now we’re getting snow? I actually had to pull out the Winter jacket again today. Come on, Mother Nature.. be nice! After my run, I enjoyed a walk down the path along the canal. I only looked over my shoulder about 10 times to make sure no one was going to jump out at me.

What are you doing this weekend?!

If you had to choose ONE which would you choose: chocolate, ice cream or cookies?
~ chocolate ice cream.. to get the best of both worlds :)

Happy weekend Run hard, eat well and live better!
