Sabrina’s 100 Workout

I hope you all had a great weekend!!

Mine was low key yet enjoyable… G-Man is still nursing his back, so no back-flips or crazy bike rides were to be had.

So last week Lindsay posted a “100 workout” which inspired me to make up my own.

This workout sucks and rocks all at the same time. It was HARD and INTENSE. Get ready to get your sweat on – for a total of 24 minutes. That’s it! NO driving to the gym, NO leaving the house, trying to find a babysitter…  lay the mat on the floor, put some workout clothes on (whatever you want since you won’t be leaving the house – bonus!) and get moving.  Sometimes we may talk ourselves out of working out but next time we are in that situation, how about we talk ourselves INTO it and try to remember how GOOD we will feel after that workout! Kapeesh? Kapeesh! Maybe I’m preaching but “Super Size Me” is on TV right now and it’s… awful.

Sabrina’s 100 Workout

100 jumps with skipping rope
90 squats
80 TRX back rows
70 crunches
60 push-ups (on knees)
50 jumps with skipping rope
40 TRX hamstring curls (hips up)
30 close grip push-ups (on knees)
20 suspended planks (twisting left to right)
10 suspended planks (knees to chest)
2 minutes of easy jumping jacks to cool down
~ then STRETCH!

squats

My upper body shook for about 5 minutes after and my arms are definitely hurting today. I think the push-ups were the most difficult for me.. ok, I KNOW they were. I’m a weakling. I was counting (ok, yelling) out loud when doing the planks because I was SORE and TIRED but man what a GREAT workout. Ok, let’s be honest, it felt like I was going to die at one point but with the thought of finishing, I was able to push through like a champ :)

Thank you, Lindsay for inspiring me to create my own 100 workout!!

How was YOUR weekend?!

Family, best friends and a sore back.

So we are still alive and well. I know, I’ve been slacking at blogging but it’s for good reason. I have been taking care of G-Man and nursing him back to health. Well, as much as I can anyways. We went to my parents this weekend and while getting ready for a photo shoot, G-Man pulled his back out. So he spent the rest of the day on the floor. There’s really nothing one can do with a messed up back other than wait for it to heal itself. Although we’ve been to the chiropracters a couple of times, the doctors to get a prescription… slowly but surely he is getting better.

I was pumped to get up early and hit the country roads for a run. I know I’ve said it before but I love running on the country roads. Its so peaceful and makes me reminisce about the many miles I’ve ran down those roads at different times in my life.

I had an AMAZING run! I ran 12.08km and ran them feeling strong and kept a good pace throughout. I was able to power up the hills and the adrenaline rush gave me that much more energy to finish strong! I was a on a high all morning. Don’t you just love that feeling?

I was able to visit with some of my best friends whom I hadn’t seen in far too long. I have the best. girlfriends. ever. I cherish the time I can spend with them especially since I live farther away and don’t get to see them as much as I would like to.

My Mom loaded me up with fresh tomatos and peppers from the neighbours garden. YUM!

————————————————–
This morning I ran a painful 8km. It was awful. I got out the door later than normal. It looked beautiful outside but failed to realize it was a whopping 22 degrees. I had on black shorts and a black long sleeve shirt. I was dehydrated and so hot I thought I was going to pass out. I ended up taking half of my shirt off and running with one arm bare and the other covered. I don’t like running in my sports bra in the city but I thought that would be better than someone finding me passed out on the side of the road.

——————————————————
So now the kids are in full-swing of their school schedules and week night routines. Last night I was reading some forms that we got at “meet the teacher” night. I was absolutely appalled to read that the kids have gym only two, yes TWO days a week. I think that is RIDICULOUS. No wonder kids are becoming more and more overweight these days…. ah, but I won’t get started on that.
———————————————-

Do you think two gym classes a week is too little?
~ most definitely. Kids spend a large amount of time at school and it is part of the schools responsibilities to teach them and reinforce the benefits about being ACTIVE and HEALTHY.

Good eats and Quality time

Happy Monday!!!

I don’t know about you but I was kind of sad to see the weekend go… because we really had a GREAT one.

Some days (Ok, most days) daily schedules, routines and to-do lists really keep us occupied and on the go, far too often.  With that being said, I would MUCH rather be busy busy than have nothing to do :) BUT it’s also important to take some down time. Time for just YOU and do something that YOU enjoy. Right?! OR something that you and your honey enjoy doing together. When was the last time that you had quality time with yourself/your special someone… away from distractions, work, kids, technology?
My handsome man and I really did have a good weekend with quality time together. Something we really needed after our busy summer.
———————————–
I was really craving restaurant style nachos allllll week, so on Friday I finally broke down and made them. We made some of our favourite fresh salsa (although we added jalapeño and fresh bell pepper) to enjoy with Nachos, refried beans and cottage cheese. I thought the cottage cheese would be a bit healthier than sour cream.  Good eats? Check!

Saturday morning I had a wicked 12.5km run. Normally, I REALLY dislike an out and back course but I wanted to run to my old stomping grounds, so I did run an out and back and it worked out alright! The last km before my turn around point was all uphill and I LOVED it!! I felt empowered and strong the whole time and wanted to do a happy dance when I made it to the top. Don’t worry, I refrained.. but I just love that adrenaline rush after a good run.

I wasn't as excited before my run... trying to wake myself up. and no, i didn't run in sandals

Later in the day, G-Man and I decided to venture off on our bikes. When we left, we had no idea where exactly we wanted to go nor how far.

We ended up spending 6 quality hours biking around the Region, exploring and taking full advantage of the beautiful sunny day. It was a bit crazy but so.much.FUN!  I was definitely not prepared in the refuelling department and should have packed way more snacks.. especially since I’m known as “la Princesa de merienditas”. I only packed one granola bar each and 3 water bottles. Stupid on my part, I know.

We stopped to buy some local apples and peaches because we I needed a little break and something refreshing. I don’t know how G-Man puts up with me.. what a tolerant good husband. My legs were getting very tired and there were times when I felt like we would never make it home.  6 hours is a long time to be on a bike…

I think we spent the last hour of the ride talking about what we wanted to eat for dinner and decided that we were too tired to cook and that we were most definitely going to reward ourselves with food. Hey, we totally deserved it!! We went to our favourite little local Chinese restaurant. They have THE BEST hot and sour soup in town.

crazy eyes!

No, I did not shower.. I changed my shirt and tied my greasy hair back and was good to go. By the time we got home, I couldn’t (nor wanted) to do much more than this:

Sit on my bum and ice my knees because they were SORE. It was so worth it though because the quality time with my handsome man and the quality exercise we did together is priceless and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure!!

What was the highlight of YOUR weekend?!
