Time flying and chocolate treats

Well, it’s November 1st already and time seems to be FLYING by eh.

Halloween is gone and over for another year….

Surprisingly, this is the only Halloween candy we bought for a treat. Actually, it’s of no surprise because I just can’t buy chocolate and “save it for later” or “only eat one”. That’s just IMPOSSIBLE which is why we don’t buy bags of candy. G-Man could have it in the house for months but  me.. no way. I would eat it all. Lack of will power? I’d say so.IMG_2570
I casually shoved half the bag in G-Man’s lunch box and have been pacing myself with the other half. Don’t worry.. only four at a time.

My youngest stepson was soooo excited about Halloween this year but most importantly his costume. Check this out:

meet: DOMO

Guess who made that? My handsome man. He has an abundance of patience, I don’t know how he does it. It started with a cardboard box, flattened cardboard to make the first one stronger and a sheet. He sewed everything … BY HAND. He made the arms, pants and red mesh part for the mouth. What a great Daddy he is, eh?  I think he did an AWESOME job!

Things have been going well on the workout front but I think I can do better. I have just been so tired lately and work is keeping me busy. Although, I am definitely feeling motivated after looking at these pictures. Holy toned! I am going to hit up the TRX in a few minutes and maybe some yoga meltdown for a good stretch.  I had a good 45 minute  run yesterday. I tried to keep my pace up since I only had time for a short run. I felt good throughout most of it except for when a sharp pain decided to appear in my side. What’s the dealio, I was on a roll and feeling good. After some deep breathing and pushing through, I was able to shake it and finish strong.  I refuelled with one of these. I didn’t follow the exact recipe… ok, maybe it was a whole different one since I only used a banana, a scoop of chocolate protein, a big handful of spinach and chocolate milk. It definitely didn’t look the prettiest but it tasted darn good.

With the cooler weather, some days it can be harder to find the motivation to get up and move or go for a run. Always remember and think about how you feel AFTER a workout. Yes, it may suck waking up some mornings and freezing your tushie off until your warmed up but doesn’t it feel great when you complete that run? It’s all worth it isn’t it? Or how about that HIIT workout that you woke up an hour early to squeeze in? Wouldn’t it be nice to sleep that extra hour… maybe some days, right? Your body will thank you for allowing yourself that time for YOU and will leave you feeling ready to take on the day ahead.

What keeps YOU motivated?

Rain, rain go away

After a sunny weekend which we were very thankful for by the way and took full advantage of, we are greeted again with rainy and dreary days. I guess that’s all part of Fall isn’t it…

I haven’t let that put a damper on my morning runs though. Monday, I headed out early and had a good 40 minute run. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure how it would go since it had been a couple of days.

radioactive runner

I wish I had my camera with me… although the sky was black as black and ready to pour any minute, there was a rainbow peeking through the grey clouds. A cold rain came down at around my 25 minute mark but thankfully, I didn’t melt. I don’t have a Garmin. Some days, I think it would be really nice to have and other days, I think I can live without it… or at least that’s what I tell myself to avoid spending so much on a fancy watch. Well, I must be living since I’m still breathing, right. I normally use Map My Run to calculate the distance and so far, it works out well.

i swear, i was excited

Yesterday I was happy to run 10km in the cool morning. I mean, I would have been happier in shorts and a tank but hey, a girls got to take what she can get… and this morning it was 4 degrees. I didn’t mind it though and was thankful for a great run that left me feeling energized and — ok, a bit tired too.

I had been craving this soup for a couple of days now. So last night, I finnnallly made it. Mama Pea, you’ve got me hooked. I just love it! For some [odd] reason rice noodles were no where to be found in the grocery store last night, so I used angel hair pasta instead. No, I couldn’t wait and go to another grocery store.. I needed my soup. It still turned out good and fulfilled my craving. I actually just realized that I made a mistake with the recipe… I thought it tasted a little bit different from the last time I made it. Oops.

Want to see something incredible and crazy? Go and read this story. Fit2Fat2Fit is about a personal trainer who was obsessed with being fit who decided to go on an unrestricted diet with no exercise for six months. After the six months (which is up in about a week or so) he will teach people that it IS possible to get back in shape by sharing his workouts and meal plans with his readers. It’s incredible because it’s a pretty drastic way to try and motivate people, don’t you think? And crazy because, well .. I have never heard anything like it!
——————————-

Would you gain 50-60 pounds to try and motivate people to get active, if you knew you were going to have a strict workout and meal plan after six months?
~ Two words: definitely not! Plain and simple, I could not and would not do it. I think there are other ways to reach out and motivate people and I would most definitely seek out the alternative rather than gaining weight to do so. I admire the man for taking this challenge on and look forward to reading about his meal plans, workouts and see the transformation happen!

The positives

Today is a great day!

WHY?

Because I shaved three minutes of my run this morning compared the same 10km route I ran a few days ago. When I headed out the door, I told myself that I was going to have a good run and feel good while doing so… and that I did.  For the most part, I felt relaxed and was able to find my groove fairly easy. I focused on my form and zoned out as much as I could – while still being mindful of the morning traffic. I love those runs…  focusing on nothing other than moving my legs and running. Forgetting about every day stresses and worries and just going with it.

My favourite show is on tonight. Actually my two favourite shows are on tonight – AT THE SAME TIME. Oh the dilemmas.  Any other X Factor fans out there?! I really like it, although if they continue to do 100 recaps in one episode, I might change my mind.

Have you ever ran a marathon? Can you imagine running a marathon in your 100th year?  Yes, ONE HUNDRED!! This Sunday was the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon and this gentleman who happens to be 100 years old COMPLETED the marathon! That is AH-MAZING! He ran his first when he was 89 years young. Can you imagine? I really couldn’t…. I found it hard to imagine myself completing a marathon with my age now. You can read the full article here.

One of my favourite fruits is back in the stores again and I’m one happy girl. Remember these?

If you haven’t tried them… well, you should.

We bought a case of them the other day… yes, they are THAT good.
